Alex Crook details Rafa Benitez’s Everton contract incentives

The money Rafa Benitez makes from his Everton contract will be heavily dependent on the success he achieves at the club, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

Benitez looks certain to make the move to the blue half of Merseyside this week, 11 years after he left the Liverpool job.

Speaking on talkSPORT [11:44, 30/06/21], journalist Crook detailed shed some light on the Spaniard’s contractual remuneration.

“I think it’s quite a brave move from Benitez, the fact he’s willing to go in there,” he said.

“I’ve been told his contract is heavily incentivised in terms of it’s based on performance rather than a massive weekly salary.”

Eager to prove himself

That’s slightly more settling information from Crook, in that Benitez has not seemingly just identified this as a money-spinner that he can earn a fortune from.

Of course, he’s still likely to be handsomely remunerated for his service, regardless of its duration or success, but at least it’s not a golden opportunity for him to grab an extortionate amount of money without sheer dedication.

As such, even if Benitez is motivated by money, at least he will have to work hard and achieve things at the club in order to get top dollar out of Farhad Moshiri and co.

Ultimately, if he is a success at Everton, then his past misdemeanours will quickly be brushed aside, such is our yearning for some silverware and consistency in terms of Premier League positions.

That’s not to say he will be heralded as some sort of deity who will be only remembered forever by supporters.

No, instead this has the feel of a cold, calculated, stone-hearted decision to appoint a manager who can achieve instant success with the club, and he will need to produce results quickly to keep up with his own monetary expectations, as well as the fans.
