Yannick Bolasie reacts as Duncan Ferguson kept on as Everton coach under Rafa Benitez

Yannick Bolasie is delighted that Duncan Ferguson has been retained as Everton coach after Rafa Benitez was appointed as their new manager.

Everton confirmed the appointment of the Spaniard on their club website on Wednesday afternoon, and said that ex-Blues striker Ferguson would be a part of his backroom team, alongside goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly.

That news was greeted with an approving message from Bolasie, whose contract at Everton expired today [Wednesday, June 30].

Everton

Bolasie remains a fans favourite among Blues supporters despite his struggles at Goodison Park since his 2016 switch from Crystal Palace.

The 32-year-old has regularly interacted with supporters over social media and interacted within the community, as evidenced by a video he uploaded online on June 28.

After Benitez was officially confirmed as the new Everton manager, Bolasie wrote on his personal Twitter profile: “Good to see my guy Big Dunc there! Very important.”

Continuity

Benitez’s appointment as the new Everton manager has split the fanbase – some are content to accept the former Liverpool manager given his past successes, while others refuse to countenance the idea of an ex-Red who made disparaging remarks about the club previously.

However, at least he will have a few true Blues to fall back on for support.

Ferguson was a Goodison Park hero during his playing days at the club, and he has become an integral member of the first-team coaching staff in recent years, being promoted to assistant manager under Carlo Ancelotti.

Now, he is primed for another big role under Benitez, and he may be even more vital in establishing a link between the new manager and supporters.

Ferguson is someone well-respected among fans and in the dressing room.

Bolasie has continually acclaimed Ferguson for the influence he had on him, while star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also voiced his effect on his career thus far.

Fans may still be fuming about the appointment of Benitez, but at least they can fall back on a bit of positive news with Ferguson remaining on board.
