Farhad Moshiri: Rafa Benitez will be appreciated by Evertonians

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has defended his decision to appoint Rafa Benitez despite the unrest it caused among the fanbase.

Since the moment Benitez began to be linked with the club there have been disgruntled fans voicing their displeasure over the move.

However, Moshiri continued to pursue the manager he felt was suited for the job and explained his decision on talkSPORT.

He said, “I’m the biggest fan and I have reacted in most cases to fans when there is discontent. When there were rallies and banners against [Roberto] Martinez, I acted. When I wanted to get David Moyes and there were protests, I didn’t take him.

“But this is the case where I think the connection is a very distant connection. He was as passionate a Liverpool manager as he was Napoli manager, Valencia manager or Real Madrid manager.

“He is an intelligent man who is obsessed with football. He’s a professional, dedicated manager who gives his soul to every club that he has been to.”

Time to back it up

Benitez’s CV makes for impressive reading. He’s won the biggest trophies at the biggest clubs and comes with the experience of handling big egos inside the dressing room.

While many thought the club would go for a younger and relatively unproven option, they instead went in the direction they did with Carlo Ancelotti.

Benitez is a big name manager and it’s time he backs it up at Everton. Credit to him for taking the job after such a motivated public campaign against him, but that can only get him so far in terms of credit.

At the end of the day, this is a results business and as long as he’s delivering wins consistently and we see our players improving, he’s doing a good job.

Hopefully, he’s backed well in this window and we see a new look side next season.
