Rafa Benitez can make Dominic Calvert-Lewin PL’s best centre-forward
Everton manager Rafa Benitez can make Dominic Calvert-Lewin the best centre-forward in the Premier League, a source has told The Athletic.
The England international has played less than two minutes at Euro 2020, missing out entirely on manager Gareth Southgate’s matchday squad for the last-16 clash against Germany.
Benitez has a pedigree for improving players, and Calvert-Lewin could benefit hugely from his arrival.
“This is good for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ben Godfrey, players like them,” the source told The Athletic.
“If DCL wants to be the best centre-forward in the country or Godfrey wants to fulfil his potential they’ve got a coach who will bring that out of them.
“He will improve individuals and work with them on the training pitch.”
Good news for DCL
The 24-year-old ended last season with 16 Premier League goals, and while it was enough to get him into the Three Lions final 26-man squad, it was not good enough for a place on the bench last time out.
We do not know what Benitez’s plans are for Calvert-Lewin, but we really hope he can make him better.
The striker has improved massively of recent, but he is nowhere near his peak and still has a lot of room for improvement.
Given Harry Kane’s form, playing chances are very limited for the Everton ace in the national team.
Marcus Rashford has also been preferred ahead of him, and a lot has to improve in his game for him to play at the World Cup next summer.
Despite his goals, DCL ended the campaign with no assist, and his inability to create chances for teammates has cost him playing minutes at the Euros.
Benitez knows what each of his players needs to improve and get better, and we cannot wait to see how he makes Calvert-Lewin “the best centre-forward in the country.”
