Simon Jordan slams Farhad Moshiri over Everton ambition

Simon Jordan has taken aim at Everton owner Farhad Moshiri over a perceived lack of ambition in the transfer market.

Speaking on talkSPORT [30/06/21], former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan questioned Moshiri’s motives and moves over recent years.

“Everton have got a billion-pound stadium to fund,” he said.

“Farhad Moshiri has got more money than god and has told you he’s got bags of ambition, test that ambition.

“Because I tell you what, ambition doesn’t smell like Alex Iwobi to me, that doesn’t smell like ambition.

“Buying Gylfi Sigurdsson for a massively inflated price doesn’t smell like ambition, it smells like bad business for a good football club that should be doing better than it is.

“Getting your pants taken down by Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t smack of ambition, it smacks of misguided, misdirected ambition.”

Expensive duds?

Sigurdsson arrived at Goodison Park in the summer of 2017 for £45million [BBC], while Iwobi followed two years later in a deal worth up to £34million [BBC].

Both were big-money purchases but they have failed to live up to their billing with the Blues.

Sigurdsson has certainly been the more successful of the two, scoring 13 Premier League goals in the 2018/19 campaign, and his overall Everton tally stands at 31 in 156 games, alongside numerous assists.

Iwobi, meanwhile, has just four goals in 65 appearances.

But both have failed to curry favour with Blues fans who have grown restless with their performances.

They might be useful squad players but that’s not good enough for two of the highest-profile signings of the Moshiri era, and the prices for the pair seemed extortionate even at the time.

A lot of money has been fluttered around by Moshiri, but there is very little substance to show for it.
