Jermaine Jenas slams ‘Moment of madness’ from Everton star Jordan Pickford for England v Ukraine
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford nearly suffered an embarrassing blunder on Saturday night during England’s Euro 2020 quarter-final clash versus Ukraine.
England ended up convincing 4-0 winners in Rome to book a semi-final tie with Denmark next week, but there was a hairy moment for Pickford in the second half of the game.
A ball was played over the top of the England defence which the 27-year-old reacted to by sprinting out of his goal to meet it.

However, he failed to get proper contact on the ball and left a Ukraine forward an open goal to aim for, though the attack came to nothing.
Speaking during live coverage of the game on the BBC [03/07/21], former England international Jermaine Jenas and commentator Guy Mowbray detailed the embarrassing mishap.
“He’s mis-kicked it awfully,” Mowbray said.
“It’s the first anxious moment of any kind for Jordan Pickford.”
Jenas added: “Southgate has got his arms out going ‘what’s going on?’
“It’s a moment of madness from Jordan Pickford.”

Minor
It wasn’t Pickford’s greatest moment of his Euro 2020 tournament so far but it came to nothing as the Ukraine attacker failed to capitalise on the Everton goalkeeper’s mistake.
That’s now five clean sheets for Pickford now as he has not been beaten by anyone in the competition, an unbelievable statistic.
There’s now a real chance that he could line up in the final without having conceded a goal with Denmark next up to try their luck at the shot-stopper.
Pickford’s error was a worrying moment for The Three Lions and does show that it does not matter how confident you are, problems can still arise.
But as a goalkeeper, everything is always going to be highlighted more, and his overall contribution was fantastic as he made a couple of vital saves to help inspire his national side past Ukraine.
