Martin Samuel questions Everton fans after Rafa Benitez protests
The Daily Mail’s Martin Samuel has been speaking on talkSPORT about how the Everton board have probably not been impacted by complaints about Rafael Benitez.
Last week the former Liverpool boss was made the Toffees’ new manager, despite strong protests against the appointment [Daily Mail].
This was a move Samuel appeared to object to.
“You cannot run the club as a vox pop,” Samuel said.
“You can’t make every appointment by going out with a clipboard and doing a customer research survey; you just can’t.”
Plenty to ponder
Ultimately, if Benitez was the best candidate for the job in terms of his CV, then you can’t really expect Moshiri to look elsewhere if he believes that the Spaniard can bring success to Goodison Park.
Benitez might not have been the popular choice, but you cannot argue with his trophy record, and he deserves time to show what he can do, and as long as he is backed in the transfer market, the Toffees could be in for an exciting season.

However, you would think that the board would have paid some attention to the views of the fans, who pour their money into the club.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like football is like that anymore, and it appears Samuel might have a point in regards to the running of the club.
Ultimately, the figures at the top of the club will run the ship how they see fit, whether that’s wrong or right.
Hopefully, though, this turns out to be a cracking appointment for Everton, and they thrive under the Spaniard despite him being an unpopular choice amongst many Evertonians.
