Fabian Delph set for final season at Everton

Everton players returned to Finch Farm this week as pre-season began ahead of the Premier League next month.

It was different for the squad this time around, with some still at major tournaments, and Rafa Benitez now at the helm.

The Spaniard has been given chance to evaluate some of the lower-ends of his squad, in a brilliant opportunity for them.

The Liverpool Echo have shared a big update on the future of some of those players, and it wasn’t good news.

Fabian Delph has been an experienced option over the past few seasons, but he hasn’t also been reliable.

The midfielder has struggled with his fitness and has suffered from numerous injuries along the way at Goodison Park.

It is suggested that Delph will complete his final season in Merseyside this time around, as he enters the final year of his deal.

Farewell.

Delph is an experienced option in the squad, but that is about it.

We don’t believe he would be a huge loss at Goodison Park should he move on, and it would likely save some big money in wages.

The 31-year-old only managed to start two games in the Premier League, adding six appearances off the bench, and that is nowhere near enough.

Looking at midfield, there are plenty of options available with Tom Davies, Allan and Andre Gomes all ahead of him.

It isn’t Delph’s fault that he keeps picking up those injuries, but it isn’t in our best interest to keep him at the club and hope for the best.

We cross our fingers for Delph that he can play much more next season, and make it a good farewell should he actually leave.
