Ben Godfrey sends powerful anti-racism message after Euro 2020 incidents
Everton defender Ben Godfrey has spoken vehemently about football continuing its fight against racism.
The England players and fans were subject to racist slurs before, during and after the Euro 2020 final – leaving a sour taste after what’s been a thrilling and competitive international competition.
Godfrey has promised that everyone associated with the game will continue fighting this age-old problem.
The Everton official website shared an extended transcript of the defender’s quotes which read, “As sad as it is, it was always coming. You expected it to happen and it shouldn’t be like that. It’s a world that we’re living and we got to work hard to change that.
“We shouldn’t live in a world where football affects people’s life outside of it in terms of race and things like that. The majority of the country will back the lads.
“We will consistently try to turn it around and change that. We won’t stop until the world is a far better place and these things stop happening.”
Kick it out
It is horrendous to see such incidents in 2021 when we expect people to be more civilised and empathetic towards each other.

The treatment Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Bukayo Saka and countless people in the game have been subject to for years is shambolic and despite continued efforts from associations and the professionals themselves, things do not seem to be changing.
Even before the game, hooligans stormed the streets of London and absolutely no regard for public space and property.
Godfrey has hit the nail about racism in the game and more players should come out and do something about this problem that has been prevalent in football for decades.
The 23-year-old has shown immense maturity with his words here and is showcasing his leadership skills at such an early age.
We’re grateful to have a player like him in our ranks and hopefully, such actions can help eradicate racism from football.
