Everton plan meeting with PSV right-back Denzel Dumfries

Everton have planned a meeting with PSV right-back Denzel Dumfries as they aim to oust Inter Milan for his signature this summer, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper, as translated by Sport Witness, reported that Everton have “moved heavily” to sign the 25-year-old at the request of new Blues boss Rafa Benitez.

Dumfries, who scored twice for the Netherlands at Euro 2020 this summer, reportedly has a £17.1million asking price, a fee that has scared off potential suitors Inter.

On the map

Dumfries has been courting admiring glances for a number of seasons now after some impressive performances in the Eredivisie, with the Chronicle hailing the “explosive” defender last year.

However, it was at the recently concluded European Championship that he really announced himself on the international scene and caused people to sit up and take notice.

He scored twice in the group stage as the Netherlands breezed into the knock-out stages, though they were beaten by the Czech Republic in the round of 16.

Regardless, his reputation has been considerably enhanced after a number of barnstorming runs down the right-wing for his national team.

Everton

Everton are in desperate need of a right-back, that much is for sure.

Seamus Coleman will turn 33 in October and he has been beset by a number of niggling injuries, and there are no obvious candidates to replace him in the Blues squad.

Jonjoe Kenny has failed to live up to his early potential and looks a certainty to be moved on, while Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate have covered in the position but are natural central defenders.

Therefore, a move for a right-back has to be a priority this summer, and Dumfries would fit the ball as an athletic, attacking full-back.

With Inter reportedly hesitant on meeting the asking price we could be leading contenders if talks go well.

In other Everton news, this Blues player has skipped training and switched agents in his efforts to an exit.
