Franciso Moreno joins Benitez backroom staff, Everton detail Duncan Ferguson role – report

Everton have announced Rafa Benitez’s backroom staff at the club with Duncan Ferguson continuing as the assistant manager.

This was a position Ferguson held previously under Carlo Ancelotti and the club have confirmed on Twitter that he will continue in that role under the Spaniard.

Francisco de Miguel Moreno, who will also serve as Benitez’s assistant has worked with the Spaniard previously at Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli, Real Madrid, Newcastle United and Dalian Professional in China.

Antonio Gomez, who played for Real Madrid’s youth teams during Benitez’s time at the Bernabeu has also been named part of the backroom staff and will serve as Everton’s first-team coach and senior analyst.

Good setup

Benitez has achieved success all over Europe and has trusted henchmen that aid him in doing his day-to-day jobs at clubs. Moreno is someone who has followed the Spaniard from club to club and shares his vision about the game,

Having Ferguson retained is a major coup by Benitez as that softened the blow after his appointment.

The former Liverpool boss came in as an unpopular figure by the majority of the fanbase, but Big Dunc’s presence in the dugout could see the Goodison faithful being more sympathetic to the new manager.

Everton

Having played for the club and then joining as a coach, Ferguson understands the Toffees ethos and knows how important the fans are in making the team a success.

It may be an age-old cliche, but they are indeed like the 12th man and if Benitez is to succeed, it’s very important he gets the fans onside instantly.

As things stand, there appears to be a sense of positivity going into the new season and it remains to be seen how Benitez fares at the club.
