Ray Parlour thinks that Everton will back Rafael Benitez in the transfer market
Ray Parlour has been speaking on talkSPORT about Everton, Rafael Benitez, and the transfer market.
The former Arsenal man revealed that he was disappointed in the Toffees last season after only finishing tenth despite signing the likes of James Rodriguez and Ben Godfrey.
He revealed that he believed the Toffees’ poor home form last year was down to the lack of a crowd, and with the crowd back and with Benitez backed in the transfer market, Parlour is predicting a good season for the Toffees [talkSPORT].
He said: “I am always quite optimistic about Everton.
“With Ancelotti last year, they [brought] a couple of good signings in, but they always seem to stutter at a certain stage of the season.
“Their home form was pretty poor last year, that was where they really suffered, and I think the crowd being back in Goodison Park [will] help Everton.
“He [Benitez] will get backed. The board will spend money at Everton, and they will go for it.
“If they can get the right players in, they will certainly be up there next year.”
Will Everton back Benitez?
The Spaniard spoke to the press for the first time on Wednesday, and he revealed that he wants to “improve” his squad, which suggests that the Everton board will back Benitez [Liverpool Echo].
Parlour seems to also think that the Toffees will go on a spending spree and support the Spaniard.
Benitez has a strong record in the Premier League, and with the Toffees’ rivals Liverpool, he only ever finished outside of the top six once.
So, if Benitez is backed and given the squad he wants, do not be surprised to see Everton near the top of the table this season.
Everton have been slow in the transfer market so far, but now that the Euros are over, perhaps we will start to see some activity from the Toffees before they face Southampton in their opening Premier League game.
Parlour believes that Everton are in for a good season, and we see no reason why they won’t be.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have tabled a bid for a certain international defender.
