Rafa Benitez: Lucas Digne ready to join team as soon as possible

Rafa Benitez has provided a positive update on Lucas Digne’s injury and expects him to return to Everton training as soon as possible.

The left-back suffered an injury playing for France at Euro 2020, which led to him missing their final game of the tournament.

He now appears to have regained some fitness and is expected to join pre-season training soon, according to the Everton boss.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Benitez said, “I had contact with him [on Wednesday morning], he is training well, doing his job and ready to join the team as soon as possible.

“He is a great professional and I know he is working hard.

“My exchange of messages with him has been good because he is telling me he is nearly ready.”

Need him back

Over the last two seasons, Digne has been one of our, if not our most consistent player, and having him miss the start of the new season would be a major blow to our ambitions of finishing in the European places.

However, that is unlikely to happen, as Benitez’s words suggest that he’ll have a decent amount of pre-season training and should be ready to start our first Premier League game of the new campaign against Southampton.

This has come as good news, especially when three weeks ago, France head coach said that he suffered a complicated injury.

Per The Liverpool Echo, he said, “The most worrying is Lucas Digne. He has a muscle injury, he felt a pull behind his thigh. It will be very complicated.

The credit of this must go to Digne for fighting this injury in time to get back before the new season starts.

He’s probably got the same amount of time off as he would after a major tournament so he would be refreshed and ready to have another phenomenal campaign for the club.
