AC Milan play down talks to sign James Rodriguez – The Athletic

AC Milan will not be making an imminent move for Everton attacker James Rodriguez, according to The Athletic.

There have been numerous reports linking the 30-year-old with a Goodison Park exit this summer after a tough second half to last season.

However, The Athletic sources have learned that, “AC Milan have played down talk of an imminent move for the Colombian.”

They still believe that his future is in jeopardy as Carlo Ancelotti’s departure has left him pondering over his future at the club.

Massive boost

AC Milan and Real Madrid appeared to be the two clubs interested in signing the Colombian this summer, but as things stand, it seems none are actively pursuing a move for the player.

Rodriguez was brought to Goodison Park by Ancelotti so it is understandable why he isn’t sure whether his future is on Merseyside as he may not have such a good rapport with Rafa Benitez.

However, if there are no official bids for the attacking midfielder, there’s a good chance that he would be tempted to stay and possibly sign a new deal at the club.

His current contract runs out in a year and if he isn’t being sold this summer, losing him on a free next summer would be bad business.

As things stand, he looks likelier to stay than leave and Benitez would have spoken to him by now about his future at the club and the Spaniard’s plans to take this side to the next level.

We’re hoping that he successfully convinces the South American to stay and sign a new deal at the club as he brings something different to the table every time he steps onto the field of play.

Former Real Madrid present Ramon Calderon has also waxed his lyrical, referring to him as ‘magnificent’ in an interview with Antena 2.

His form has been erratic at times, but overall, the side looks in much better shape with him in it.
