Everton want to sign Leon Bailey this summer – The Athletic

Everton are keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen attacker Leon Bailey this summer, according to The Athletic.

The report details that the Jamaican winger is on the club’s shortlist for this summer, having been extensively assessed by Director of Football Marcel Brands and his recruitment team.

The idea is to sign ‘dynamic’ wide attackers so as to make the team more fluid and devastating in the final third – and the 23-year-old could prove to be the ideal one for that role.

Bailey has been one of Bundesliga’s worst-kept secrets of the past few years and he has been linked with a move away from Leverkusen every summer, only for it to not materialise.

However, with his side not being able to push for the title and losing their stars every summer, this could be the window where Bailey decides that it’s time to part ways and look for a new challenge elsewhere.

The Jamaica international, who plays for the Reggae Boyz in the CONCACAF [North American] tournaments, has performed consistently every season for the Eternal Bridesmaids – with last season being his best one in terms of goal involvements.

He registered a return of nine goals and eight assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances, playing a pivotal role in helping his side fight for European places.

Bailey scored 15 goals in all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign.

The 23-year-old is a tricky right-wing sensation who is capable of delivering something out of nothing.

He’s a good dribbler, a precise passer and always has an eye for goal. Often wingers seem to be content playing the role of creators, but Bailey is one who likes to have the ball at his feet and wants to be the one to carry the team’s goal-scoring responsibilities.

In many ways, Bailey is similar to Mo Salah – both stylistically and in terms of technique.

At 23, he could be viewed as one for the future and brought to Merseyside this summer.

He’s a player that would walk into our playing eleven and could facilitate a switch to 4-2-3-1 with James Rodriguez in the hole and Richarlison playing as a left inside forward.
