Demarai Gray leaves Bayer Leverkusen training camp ahead of Everton switch

Demarai Gray has left Bayer Leverkusen’s training camp in Austria ahead of a move to Everton, according to Rheinische Post journalist Sebastian Bergmann.

Writing via his personal Twitter account of Tuesday morning, Bergmann reported that Gray, 25, has been left out of Leverkusen’s pre-season training camp with his stay at the Bundesliga club all but over after just six months.

Sky Sports has reported that the ex-Leicester attacker is already due at Finch Farm for a medical on Tuesday.

Bargain addition

Gray might not have had the best of spells at Leicester and Bayer Leverkusen but for £1.5million, there’s not a lot that can go wrong here.

According to Sky Sports, that’s how much Everton are paying Leverkusen for the English winger, who made one of the Three Lions squads back in 2018 but failed to earn a debut senior cap.

It seems like a risk-free move and while Gray isn’t someone who’ll walk into Rafa Benitez’s starting line-up, he is a player who can add some depth in an area that needs it.

Everton

Gray has 133 Premier League appearances to his name but has scored just 10 goals and supplied only 11 assists in England’s top-flight.

He never really broke into the Leicester starting line-up and last season he was handed just one league appearance by Brendan Rodgers ahead of his move to Leverkusen.

After moving to Germany, Gray started well with one goal and two assists in his first three appearances but that form soon fizzled out to the point Leverkusen are ready to let him go for so cheap.

We hope he does well with Everton.
