Report: Bayern look for FIFA exemptions to sign Thierry Small this summer

Bayern Munich are understood to have looked at exemptions from FIFA in order to sign Everton youngster Thierry Small this summer, according to The Liverpool Echo.

Small, 16, will be eligible to sign a professional deal which has been put on the table by Everton, on August 1 which is the day he turns 17.

While Everton expect him to sign the new deal, the defender has reportedly gone AWOL and there is understood to be a breakdown between him and the club.

Bayern are looking to capitalise on the 16-year-old’s uncertainty and possibly tempt him to move to Germany when he’s eligible to sign a pro deal.

However, as the new Brexit rules have kicked in, it’s become harder for foreign clubs to sign academy players.

Fighting a losing battle

If Small had his heart set on a Goodison Park stay, he wouldn’t be acting the way he has over the last few weeks.

It’s strange to see someone at that age refusing to return to training, possibly in a bid to force a move away from the club.

He must be aware of the interest shown in his services and could either be looking for more money at Everton or the opportunity to move to Bayern Munich or the other Premier League clubs linked with him.

Arsenal and Manchester United have also shown a keen interest in getting the Toffees and are likely to be keeping an eye on the player’s refusal to return to pre-season training.

Small has gone against the club’s wishes as they’ve not given him permission to train alone.

If a player has this kind of attitude and work ethic at 16, we should steer clear from him.

We might lose a great talent, but the costs of keeping him at the club could be far higher.
