Everton target Denzel Dumfries to issue PSV exit request on Sunday

Everton target Denzel Dumfries will request a transfer when he returns to PSV on Sunday, according to Italian news outlet Corriere Dello Sport.

They claim that the 25-year-old Dutch international is due to return to the Eredivisie giants tomorrow [25/07/21] after being granted an extended break following his Euro 2020 exertions, where the Netherlands made it to the last 16.

The right-back has been heavily linked with a move to Everton over the past few months, before, during and after the Euros.

Indeed, Express Sport journalist Ryan Taylor reported earlier this week [21/07/21] that Rafa Benitez had given director of football Marcel Brands the green light to make a move.

However, Corriere Dello Sport’s recent report suggests Dumfries wants to sign for Italian giants Inter Milan, and his exit request is to exert pressure on PSV who are unwilling to accept Inter’s loan-to-buy offer.

The Eindhoven-based outfit value Dumfries at between £12.8million-£17.1million [15-20 million Euros].

That time of the year…

Players who participated at Euro 2020 and were knocked out in the earlier rounds have recently started pre-season training with their clubs, while those who reached the latter stages are expected back in the next couple of weeks.

Dumfries fits into the former category after his nation’s time at the tournament came to its conclusion on June 27 with a 2-0 defeat to the Czech Republic.

As such, Dumfries, like many other players who headed into Euro 2020 with questions marks hanging over their future, will be drawing up plans to leave his current club.

After a relatively quiet start to the transfer window, it is likely to heat up over the next few weeks, and moves will start to accelerate.

That was seen when the Blues brought in three new signings this week in the form of Asmir Begovic, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray.

Dumfries would be a next-level signing, though, and fill an urgent spot at right-back.

It looks to be a complicated deal to conclude, however, with his preference of a move to Inter.

But if they continue to baulk at his asking price and PSV dig their heels in, he may well be forced to reconsider, and the Blues will welcome him with open arms.

In other Everton news, the Blues are in work permit talks over a deal for this Dutch defender who was seen at Finch Farm recently.
