PSG goalkeeper Sergio Rico rejected Everton move
Everton have tabled an offer for 27-year-old goalkeeper Sergio Rico who is set to leave PSG this summer, according to Matteo Moretto.
The Sky Sport journalist made the claim on his personal Twitter profile on Monday evening [26/07/21], where he is followed by Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Moretto wrote: “Sergio Rico is not going to continue in Paris. Lille are very interested but there is no agreement. PSG rejected an offer from Real Sociedad and the goalkeeper did not accept a proposal from Everton because he wants guarantees to play. Besiktas, totally fake.”
Initial No.2 target?
Moretto hasn’t detailed exactly when Everton made an offer to Rico, but it was surely before the Blues brought Asmir Begovic in on a free transfer from Bournemouth last week [20/07/21].
The Bosnian shot-stopped has already made his unofficial Blues debut, starting Sunday night’s penalty shoot-out victory over Colombian outfit Millonarios.
He is expected to act as a backup to Jordan Pickford this season, with 21-year-old Joao Virginia likely to be in reserve if a loan move is not sanctioned.

If the Portuguese goalkeeper is granted a temporary move away, then perhaps Rafa Benitez will re-enter the market for another option in that area.
Other Premier League clubs have opted for three senior options in the goalkeeping department in recent years, with Manchester United the most prominent example as veteran Englishman Lee Grant acted as third-choice last season while Dean Henderson and David de Gea battled it out for number one spot. The Premier League runners-up even added ex-England international Tom Heaton this summer.
But if the Blues go down a similar route, it surely won’t be someone of Rico’s calibre.
The two-time Europa League winner is entering the prime years of his career and played 10 Ligue 1 games last season for PSG, while Begovic is unlikely to fancy ending up in the stands after being named in the 2020/21 Championship Team of the Season.
In other Everton news, the Blues are in work permit talks over a deal for this Dutch defender who was seen at Finch Farm recently.
