Phil McNulty slams Everton fans for complaining about Benitez wanting Rodriguez gone
Phil McNulty has come for Everton fans complaining about manager Rafa Benitez wanting James Rodriguez gone.
The Colombian revealed on Twitch last night that he does not know what the future holds for him at Goodison Park amid reports linking him with an exit.
Benitez and Rodriguez did not get along at Real Madrid, and the Spaniard seems keen on moving the midfielder on.
The 30-year-old is loved by a large section of the Toffees faithful, though, and some have been grumbling that the manager wants the player gone.
McNulty has been quick to remind them of how Rodriguez was missing in action towards the business end of last season, and the BBC Sport Chief football writer posted on his Twitter account this evening:
“Interesting to see the amount of Everton fans complaining about Benitez apparently not wanting James who conveniently forget the player’s non-contribution in the final months of last season.”
Dilemma
Everton fans have to choose between Rafa and James here, and there can only be one winner – the boss.
He has the final say, and if he wants the Colombian international gone, nobody would stop him.
Rodriguez appears keen on leaving too as the only reason why he joined us is no longer in place.
The midfielder moved to Goodison Park solely because Carlo Ancelotti convinced him to, and both could be looking at a reunion this summer.
Losing such a great player hurts, but we cannot afford to hold on to a player who does not guarantee excellent performances week in, week out.
Rodriguez was great in the first half of last season but went completely missing during the latter half.
He scored six goals and made four assists in 23 Premier League games, but much more is expected from a player of such calibre.
Benitez wants players that are ready to leave their all on the pitch every game and turn up whenever they are called upon.
There is a reason why the duo did not get along at the Santiago Bernabeu, and not a lot has changed since then.
We do not know what the final decision would be, and while Rodriguez’s depart would hurt a bit, we have to support whatever call the manager makes.
In other Everton news, Benitez wants Brazilian ace at Goodison Park, club scouting him at Olympics.
