Everton have not yet submitted a formal offer for Joaquin Correa

No club has submitted a formal offer for Everton target and current Lazio star Joaquin Correa, according to a report from tuttomercatoweb.

They claim that the Serie A side have to sell some players and claim that they want between 30 and 35million Euros [£25.7 – £29.4million] for the Argentine after he decided that he wants to leave Rome for pastures new.

However, the report states that “no club” has “formalised” a suitable offer for Lazio, but they state that the Toffees are leading the race for Correa. So it remains to be seen what happens with Correa, but Everton seem like they are in pole position to make a move.

Could Correa move to Goodison Park?

The 26-year-old is naturally an attacking midfielder, and given that one of Rafael Benitez’s preferred formations is a 4-2-3-1, Correa could be the ideal player to slip in behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin [The Athletic].

James Rodriguez is free to leave, so if they can shift him off the wage bill, a move for Correa would make sense in many ways.

He has been described as “formidable” by Simone Inzaghi and last season; he scored eight goals, which would have made him the Toffees’ second-top goalscorer behind Calvert-Lewin [Lazio’s official website].

The only problem could be the fee given that he could cost just under £30million. It is unclear how much the Toffees have to spend this summer, but their spending has been very limited so far, which could indicate that they don’t have much to spend or that they are saving their money for a special player.

If it is the latter, Correa could be that special player who Everton should blow their budget on.

If they are serious about Correa, they should strike now before another side comes in for him.
