Everton hold talks with Joaquin Correa’s agent

Everton have held talks with Joaquin Correa’s agent and are preparing a bid for the Argentine, according to a report from Il Messaggero.

They claim that the Toffees have held “positive talks” with Correa’s agent and are preparing to offer 25million Euros [£21.3million] plus bonuses for the Lazio man.

However, the report also states that Everton could face competition from Leicester City, who are “very interested” in signing Correa and are also preparing to launch a bid for the 26-year-old. Despite this, though, the Toffees are leading the chase for Correa.

Positive news!

With James Rodriguez now free to leave Goodison Park, the Toffees need to find a replacement for him, and Correa could be that man.

The 26-year-old scored eight goals last season in just 28 appearances in all competitions, which would have made him Everton’s second-top goalscorer [WhoScored]. However, he only provided three assists, which was less than Rodriguez.

Correa, though, did average one key pass per game, which is less than Rodriguez, but still suggests that the Argentine was creating the chances, and his teammates just weren’t finishing them [WhoScored].

Correa has also been described as a “menace” by Breaking The Lines, so he could be the ideal addition to this Everton side.

Given that Rafael Benitez prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation, you would think Correa could be the man to slot in behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and cause all sorts of problems [The Athletic].

It remains to be seen what happens, but this report is positive and suggests that the Toffees are edging closer to signing Correa.
