Everton are monitoring the situation of Sean Longstaff

Everton are watching the situation of Sean Longstaff at Newcastle United after the Toon agreed a fee for Joe Willock, according to a report from The Athletic.

They claim that with Newcastle close to signing the Arsenal midfielder, the Toffees are now “monitoring” Longstaff’s situation and could be considering a bid.

Rafael Benitez was the man who handed Longstaff his big break while the Spaniard was at St James’ Park and claimed that he was the new Michael Carrick, so he is clearly a big fan of Longstaff, and this could be one to keep an eye on [the Guardian].

Everton to make a move for Longstaff?

The 23-year-old was linked with the Toffees recently in a swap deal involving Tom Davies, but there is no mention of that in this report.

Longstaff thrived under Benitez at Newcastle, but since then, he has struggled to get back to his best for the Toon and has even admitted that himself [the Northern Echo].

However, he is a player who has been praised by Pep Guardiola in the past, and if Benitez thinks he could be the next Carrick, there must be something about him [the Chronicle].

He also only has one year left on his contract, so the Toon could look to cash in after they seal the signing of Willock.

This transfer certainly could be one to keep an eye on and could start to accelerate once Newcastle sign Willock.

Benitez was the man who kickstarted Longstaff’s career, and a move to Goodison could be exactly what he needs and also exactly what the Toffees need as well.
