Jose Baxter reacts as Lewis Dobbin makes Everton debut against Manchester United

Everton striker Lewis Dobbin made his debut for the first-team against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The 18-year-old came off the bench to replace Demarai Gray in the 78th minute of the game but was unable to make any difference as the Toffees suffered a 4-0 drubbing.

Nevertheless, Dobbin was proud to have made his senior bow for Everton at such an historic stadium, taking to his personal Instagram account to make his mixed feelings known.

Former Toffees attacker Jose Baxter was pleased to see the teenager make his debut, reacting thus.

Great future ahead

Dobbin has been one of the best players for the under-23 during pre-season, with three hat-tricks to his name in five games.

The teenage striker has apparently caught the eyes of first-team manager Rafa Benitez, who invited him to play during a practice match against Accrington Stanley prior to the pre-season tour of the United States.

While Dobbin did not make the squad and is expected to feature primarily for David Unsworth side this season, he is definitely knocking on the first-team door with his recent heroics.

We see the Everton academy graduate making his competitive debut this season, and not many would bet against that.

With Moise Kean the only striker available ahead of next weekend’s Premier League opener, it should not come as a surprise if Dobbins is on the bench for the Southampton game.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed the Man Utd friendly due to a knock while Richarlison just finished playing for Brazil at his second international competition of the summer.

Everton

Everton’s under-23s get their campaign underway on August 16 with a trip to Blackburn Rovers and the young striker will be keen to impress and fast-track his path to a permanent place on the first-team bench.

If he continues scoring those hat-tricks, he could soon start giving the Keans and DCLs a run for their money.
