Everton want to sign Marvelous Nakamba: Eight-figure fee required

Everton want to sign Marvelous Nakamba but Aston Villa are likely to make a profit on the midfielder, according to Mike McGrath.

In his latest Transfer Notebook, the Daily Telegraph reporter claimed that the Toffees and Watford are “monitoring” the 27-year-old Villa man.

However, if Everton want to sign him, they could be required to pay more than the £11million that Villa paid to Club Brugge for the Zimbabwean international in the summer of 2019.

Do Everton need Nakamba?

Since Dean Smith’s side signed the central midfielder, he has only made 42 Premier League appearances, and most of them came in his first season when Villa struggled.

Last season, the likes of Douglas Luiz and John McGinn were often preferred to Nakamba, with young Jacob Ramsey also making a few more appearances than Nakamba.

So it is pretty clear that he is not really in Smith’s plans, although he could still be quite expensive, which seems a bit ridiculous.

Despite not playing that much for Villa in the Premier League, Nakamba has been described as “exceptional” by the Birmingham Mail, so there could be something there.

However, we can’t imagine that this is a name that will get many Evertonians excited, and we would argue they could do much better.

If Benitez wants him, though, then we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Toffees make a move for the Villa man.
