Everton manager Rafael Benitez discusses FFP and the club’s transfer business

Everton manager Rafael Benitez has revealed his thoughts on the club’s transfer business and the implications of Financial Fair Play.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard revealed that he still wants to add to his squad but might have to wait until near the end of the window, and that the club have to stick within the FFP threshold [Football Daily].

This wasn’t the clearest update from Benitez, but he did indicate that the Toffees would be active before the window closes, which has to be seen as a positive.

He said: “It’s still early, we have to wait a little bit until the end of the transfer window, but I am happy with the way that the players are training, with the way that we are working.”

Then when asked about Financial Fair Play, he said: “The reality is that clubs are spending some money, and you have to manage that.

“The Financial Fair Play rules are there, we have to follow them, and we try to do it. We have to consider [it] every time.”

Benitez confident of new signings?

The Spaniard doesn’t dismiss the possibility of the Toffees bringing in some more players before the end of the transfer window but hints that deals will happen at the end of this month.

So far, the Toffees have spent very little while the likes of Burnley and Brentford have all spent more on transfers [Transfermarkt].

Therefore, it is understandable that many Evertonians aren’t confident about this season, and we feel that the board need to back Benitez more [The Athletic].

Considering he wasn’t exactly a popular choice, you would have thought the board would give him some money to spend to ensure that he doesn’t fail straightaway.

If the Toffees get off to a bad start, things could turn toxic for Benitez, and if the board don’t support him in the remainder of the transfer window, things could turn ugly.
