Fabian Delph reacts to Andros Townsend Everton debut

Everton attacking midfielder Andros Townsend made his Premier League debut for the club against Southampton yesterday, weighing in with an assist.

The 30-year-old was handed his first start in the Toffees opening game of the campaign by manager Rafa Benitez, and he helped spark the comeback in the 3-1 victory.

Townsend was glad with his debut, taking to his personal Instagram account to react with a post.

Fabian Delph was impressed with the performance of his new Everton teammate, commenting thus:

Encouraging

Townsend’s arrival at Everton did not spark wild celebrations and a lot of fans are still not impressed with the club’s decision to sign a free agent.

Despite his quality, Crystal Palace were keen to let him go for nothing, and he now wants to prove his detractors wrong on Merseyside.

He told manager Rafa Benitez that he wants to play for England again, and did reject the chance to play Champions League football abroad just to make the move to join us.

Breaking into the Three Lions squad will require double digits of goals and/or assists, and Townsend has started the season on a perfect note.

We cannot say what will happen next, but if he ends this season with at least 15 involvement in goals, then everyone has to agree that signing him was worth it.

Everton

Benitez knows he is getting a hardworking player capable of delivering his attacking and defensive duties well, and we loved what he saw yesterday.

If he plays like this for the remainder of the campaign and blows Gareth Southgate away with incredible numbers, his World Cup dreams might just come true.
