Everton can sign Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes for £17.06m

Everton are the main candidates in the race to sign Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes, and they can get it done for £17.06million, according to Record.

The Portuguese giants are looking to cash in on one of their most valuable assets this summer, and they are open to selling the 22-year-old Brazilian.

The Toffees are not the only ones interested in Nunes, with fellow Premier League clubs and others in Europe’s top-flight leagues also keen.

Time to move?

With just two weeks left in the summer transfer window, Everton are yet to make a signing that would get the fans really excited.

Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray are decent additions to our attack no doubt, but a new midfielder would make sense too.

With James Rodriguez excepted to leave Goodison Park before the window shuts, manager Rafa Benitez could do with another creative outlet in the middle of the park, and Nunes can be his man for the job.

The Brazilian loves to dribble and split defences apart with brilliant passes, and we need someone like that orchestrating proceedings in midfield.

£17million is a decent fee to pay for such a talented youngster, but we need to move on some high earners first and possibly complete one or two major sales in order to balance the books and adhere to the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play rules.

Benitez’s men started the new campaign with an impressive 3-1 win over Southampton on Saturday, but we need to add quality to this squad to have any chance of breaking into the top-seven this term, and Nunes can help improve our team.
