Everton interest in Lazio attacker Joaquin Correa intensifies

Everton have emerged as Tuesday frontrunners to sign Lazio forward Joaquin Correa, according to Italian news outlet Fantacalcio.

It is claimed that “in the last hours the Everton hypothesis is taking hold” with the 27-year-old set to exit the Rome-based outfit and Italy.

Everton are said to have overtaken the likes of Inter Milan in the race to sign the eight-cap Argentina international who “likes” the Blues.

Lazio value Correa at £34.1million, as per Fantacalcio’s report, and are awaiting his sale to press ahead with two signings of their own.

Versatile

Correa can play across the forward line and that could be an attractive proposition for Rafa Benitez.

Everton need to sign a new striker this summer with the futures of Moise Kean and Cenk Tosun far from certain, and if the duo leave then Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be the only senior centre-forward option at the club.

Correa may not possess the same aerial attributes as the England international but the 2021 Copa America winner is six-foot two-inches and is not someone who can be easily knocked off the ball.

He’s not the most prolific forward – 22 goals in 92 Serie A appearances for Lazio doesn’t scream deadly finisher – but if he and Richarlison can hit reach double figures then, alongside Calvert-Lewin, there should be enough goals in the Blues frontline.

Lazio may have to significantly lower their asking price though as £34.1million seems a hefty price to pay.

Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray made the switch to Merseyside this summer, but Correa represents a big step up from both.

In other Everton news, the agents of this Blues-linked international attacker have flown into Europe to plot his expected summer switch.
