Everton to sell James Rodriguez to sign Joaquin Correa – report

Everton playmaker James Rodriguez is set to seal his exit to join Atletico Madrid, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

The Italian outlet have reported on their website that the Colombian leaving with allow the Toffees to make their first major signing of the summer.

It is suggested that Rodriguez’ exit will lead to Rafa Benitez diving on Lazio attacker Joaquin Correa this month.

Inter Milan are also interested, and both them and the Toffees are said to be leading the race as things stand for the Argentinian.

Maurizio Sarri is waiting for news before Lazio’s opening Serie A clash against Empoli on Saturday afternoon.

The Italian wants to receive a maximum of £29.7million for the South American, a fee that looks beyond our reach.

It is unknown how much the sale of Rodriguez would bring the Toffees, but it would certainly free up the room in terms of Financial Fair Play.

Over to you…

Marcel Brands and Farhad Moshiri will be watching this one very closely, and the exit of Rodriguez will be critical to any move.

The Toffees have money to spend, but FFP has been a big shadow overhanging us for years now and hopefully, losing the Colombian is enough to calm that down.

Losing Rodriguez may appear to be a blow, but given his reliability and lack of consistency, seeing him go would not be as bad as first seemed.

Correa would be a brilliant replacement too, having picked up serious Champions League experience in recent years.

Hopefully, this one can move quickly with both deals getting done as soon as possible with only two weeks in the window left.
