Joao Virginia finalises Sporting CP transfer – report

Everton goalkeeper Joao Virginia has finalised the deal to sign for Sporting CP on Wednesday, according to O Jogo.

The Portuguese outlet has reported on their website that the deal is done, and the stopper will now complete his medical.

It is suggested that an announcement is imminent this week, although the Toffees exit has been finalised.

The 21-year-old is set to sign on an initial loan deal, and that will see Everton pay 50% of his wages for the season.

Having only made three appearances last season, there was certainly no immediate chances on the horizon.

Robin Olsen took that replacement spot after signing that loan deal from Roma, something that wouldn’t have happened should the club have had total confidence in Virginia.

Everton

Rafa Benitez has already welcomed Asmir Begovic to Goodison Park this summer, and chances would have been limited for the youngster.

This is the right move for all parties, with the Toffees needing to offload some names to bring in players of their own this month.

Virginia was tipped for big things in Merseyside, but it was hard to see him ever dislodging Jordan Pickford from that number one spot.

It appears weird that the reports have suggested the deal is done and Virginia is a Sporting player without the medical being done – they must be confident.
