Stan Collymore suggests Everton swoop to sign Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin

Stan Collymore suggests Everton should attempt to sign Newcastle United forward Allan Saint-Maximin before the transfer window closes.

Saint-Maximin, 24, supplied a brilliant assist for the Magpies on Sunday to set up a goal for Callum Wilson for West Ham.

However, despite holding the lead, Newcastle went on to lose 4-2 to David Moyes’ side in front of their own fans and that has led to Collymore suggesting Steve Bruce needs to strengthen his defence.

And in order to bolster his rearguard, Collymore claims Saint-Maximin could be used to raise funds and feels he’d be a good signing for ambitious teams like Everton.

“I like Allan Saint-Maximin – he has pace, skills and attitude,” the ex-Liverpool forward said in the Mirror’s print edition [August 17, page 55].

“If I were in charge of recruitment at an upwardly mobile club such as West Ham, Everton, Leeds or Aston Villa I’d take a punt on him. Newcastle have done their dough on Joe Willock.

“And, if the second half of their game against West Ham is anything to go by, the Geordies need to stiffen up their defensive unit and maybe therefore be tempted with a cash deal.”

Yes, please

Saint-Maximin is too good for Newcastle.

The Tyneside club will more than likely battle against relegation from the Premier League this season with Saint-Maximin trying to constantly dig them out of trouble.

The ex-Saint-Etienne forward has six goals and 10 assists in 52 Premier League appearances for the Magpies but if he was playing with better players and a better manager than Bruce, he’d no doubt be scoring more.

Saint-Maximin joined Newcastle not long after Benitez left and it would have been good – for the Toon Army, at least – for them to have been able to see what the Spaniard could have done with the ex-France youth international.

Everton could do with some more strength in depth out wide and up front and Saint-Maximin can play on the left and as a striker.

Is Moise Kean leaves, he’d definitely be a good replacement.

However, will Newcastle sell him?

We really don’t think they will.

In other Everton news, this Blues player is scheduled to undergo a medical at a new club this week.
