Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri discusses Joaquin Correa’s intentions amid reported Everton talks

Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri has addressed the future of Joaquin Correa amid heavy speculation linking the 27-year-old with a move to Everton.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday ahead of the Italian giants’ first Serie A game of the season this weekend, ex-Chelsea boss Sarri has suggested that the Argentina attacker is on his way out.

In quotes relayed on the Lazio English Twitter account, Sarri said: “We’re thinking about Correa actually. We’re talking about a really strong player, but he made his decision some time ago. The situation is evolving, and that doesn’t make him able to be in the right mental conditions to play.”

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reported via his personal Twitter profile on Thursday night that Everton and Lazio were in talks over the transfer of Correa.

He also claimed that an offer was expected, with a deal likely to be up to £25.7million.

Inter interest

There looks to be two main blockages to this potential deal – our financial situation and the presence of Inter Milan.

Correa seems to have detailed his desire to leave Rome and Sarri’s language suggests the Italian club will agree to his exit this summer, if the appropriate solutions are found.

However, Seria A title holders Inter may have something to say about proceedings after their heavily reported interest in the 2021 Copa America winner.

Simone Inzaghi recently left Lazio to replace Antonio Conte as the Nerazzurri’s new manager, and thus he could hold the key to Correa’s future.

Reports that we have been handicapped by FFP could also hamper our pursuit of the South American star.

But he appears to be on the market, and the race is on to secure his signature before the end of the transfer window.

In other Everton news, the Blues are in talks to sign this title-winning forward, bid lined up for Anfield equaliser hero.
