Jermaine Jenas and Gary Lineker impressed with Demarai Gray against Leeds

Everton played out a 2-2 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, twice surrendering their lead in a keenly-contested clash.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Demarai Gray bagged the goals for the Toffees, with the latter opening his Premier League account for his new team.

The 25-year-old English attacking midfielder caused the Leeds defence a lot of problems with his pace and energy, and Match of the Day pundits Jermaine Jenas and Gary Lineker were more than impressed with his performance.

As shown on their official Twitter account, Lineker began: “Demarai Gray, I mean, could be one of the bargains of the season.”

Jenas: “£1.5million from Bayer Leverkusen. It could be incredible business, but I think this is kind of like Demarai Gray’s career now. Now I think at Leicester, he had those moments of brilliance, we thought, wow, we’re going to see a player here…

Lineker then cuts in: “Never been a lack of ability…”

To which Jenas replied: “No, and that’s why this move is a really important one for him.”

Top player

Gray has always had it in him from his days at Birmingham City, so it is not surprising seeing him run Leeds defence ragged.

He capped a fine performance with a good goal, but the question everyone wants an answer to is whether he can produce the goods week in, week out.

The former Leicester man hit the ground running at Leverkusen only to flatter to deceive, and he also had his occasional impressive spells during his time with the Foxes.

Everton

We want the Everton winger delivering every game, and manager Rafa Benitez will be backing him to.

Gray did not play like a £1.5million player yesterday and should he hit double digits in goals or assists at the end of this season, many would agree the Toffees landed a bargain in the summer.

We do not know what to expect from the former England youth international going forward, but he is at the age where he is approaching his peak, and the Goodison Park outfit have provided him with the platform to finally fulfil his potential.
