Gary Neville thinks Everton will have a strong season under Benitez
Gary Neville is expecting to see Everton up near the top of the table this season under Rafael Benitez.
Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Neville revealed that even though he wasn’t too happy to see an ex-Liverpool boss take over at Goodison Park, he still expects the Spaniard to do well.
The Toffees have started the season quite well, picking up four points from their first two games, while they have scored five goals and looked a threat going forward, so it is no wonder Neville sees good things ahead [Sky Sports Monday Night Football 23/08/2021 via the Liverpool Echo].

He said: “I’ve been clear, I don’t quite like the idea of the Liverpool legend going to Goodison Park, many Evertonians don’t, but I’ve got no doubts about what he will do in terms of performance and I do think that he will make them have their best season for a long time.
“I think they could do what West Ham and Leicester did last season, get up to that fifth or sixth position.
“Everton have been striving to get close to the Champions League, he’ll get a lot of good results for them, and I think that has started already.”
Big season for the Toffees?
This is a very positive view of Everton’s season, and if the Toffees end in fifth or sixth, that would be an incredible season from Everton.
It would be even more impressive given that the Toffees haven’t spent much money in this transfer window and have instead relied on cheap deals to bolster their squad [Football Transfers].

However, the signs look positive early on, and it seems clear that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is going to get plenty of service which should result in a huge season for him.
It will be interesting to see exactly how Everton’s season will go, but if the Toffees finished fifth or sixth as Neville has predicted, that would be the dream start to the Benitez reign.
