Marcus Bent: Idrissa Gueye would be open to Everton return

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gueye would be open to a return to Everton this summer, according to Marcus Bent.

The Senegal international left Merseyside for the French giants in 2019, but could soon become surplus to requirements following the arrival of Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

PSG are looking to offload some players this summer after signing a couple of players [The Athletic], and Gueye, 31, could be considering his future with game time at Parc des Princes set to be limited for him going forward.

Bent reckons the defensive midfield stalwart could jump at a chance to seal an emotional return to Goodison Park if the club manages to move on some players.

The former Toffees star told Football Fan Cast: “It’s about getting rid of certain players to get him in. Would he want to come back? Probably, because the Everton fans love him.

“He had a great season at PSG and is still young enough. It’s about finding a way of putting the players into place.”

Needed?

Marco Verratti, Ander Herrera and Wijnaldum are currently above Gueye in Mauricio Pochettino’s pecking order, while the likes of Danilo Pereira could also be preferred ahead of him.

Gana’s quality cannot be doubted, but it is going to be tough for him to play as much as he would love if he stays PSG given the competition in that midfield.

Everton could do with such an enforcer in the middle of the park right now, but whether it is a department Rafa Benitez is keen on strengthening right now is unknown.

The defence and attacking departments are in urgent need of quality reinforcements, but the Toffees are running out of time to get players in.

They need to move some players on first, but that has proven difficult all summer.

Gueye is a player Everton need, but a move would be difficult right now.

Having tasted Champions League football and silverware at PSG, the veteran will not be too quick to return to a club where those two remain elusive.
