Rafa Benitez has requested for Luis Diaz at Everton
Rafa Benitez has asked Everton to sign Porto attacking midfielder Luis Diaz, according to WinSportsTV and W Radio Colombia journalist Pipe Sierra.
The 24-year-old Colombia international starred at the recent Copa America tournament, scoring four goals.
Sierra posted the update on his personal Twitter account on Friday afternoon: “Everton want him, at the request of Rafa Benítez,” he wrote.
“The Colombian really likes the economic proposal of the Toffees, but has not made any decision yet.
“He could stay in Porto, but another Champions League team would also offer a bid.”
Massive
As expected, it appears the Goodison Park outfit are leaving their business late in the summer transfer window, and getting a deal done for Diaz would be huge.
Benitez needs a creative outlet in his attack, and South American has what it takes to bring that to the table.
Diaz ended last season with eight goals and five assists across the league and Champions League for Porto, and he has already hit the ground running in the new season, with two goals to his name in three appearances.
With James Rodriguez expected to leave Everton before next Tuesday’s deadline, it is only normal for the Merseysiders to bring in a replacement who can have a similar effect on the team in the final third.
Diaz will be keen to succeed where his compatriot failed at the club should a deal work out, but with a team offering Champions League football also keen, joining them or remaining with Porto to play against the likes of AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool in the group stage of the elite competition could be more appealing.
