Everton midfielder James Rodriguez an option for Lazio and Juventus
Everton want James Rodriguez to join Porto in a swap deal for Luis Diaz, according to WinSportsTV and W Radio Colombia journalist Pipe Sierra.
However, while the 30-year-old midfielder would love to return to the Portuguese outfit, he wants to move to Italy before the summer transfer window shuts.
AC Milan plot to table an offer for the signature of Rodriguez in the coming days, while Lazio and Juventus are also keeping tabs on his situation at Everton.
Sierra posted on his personal Twitter account on Friday afternoon: “Everton want to give him to Porto in the exchange for Luis Diaz.
“The number 10 would like to return to the Dragoes Azuis, but dreams of going to Italy.
“AC Milan will make an offer in the next few days. Lazio and Juventus are options.”
Relief?
The Toffees want Diaz, and letting his compatriot go in the other direction in order to get a deal across the line would be perfect.
However, things are not that straightforward with these types of deals, and Rodriguez would want a final say on his future.
Everton cannot force him to join Porto, but they would love it should Milan or any club get their highest-paid playing staff off their wage bill before next Tuesday’s summer transfer deadline.
Manager Rafa Benitez does not have the Colombian in his plans, and going by his Twitch antics, the player is not planning on spending another season at Goodison Park either.
Both parties need to get his exit sorted as soon as possible, and doing so would come as a huge financial relief as the Spanish manager would love to bring in more players before the window shuts.
Given Rodriguez’s quality, more clubs could come forward for his signature in the days ahead, but he needs to lower his demands if he wants to leave Merseyside this summer.
