Everton consider imminent Jesse Lingard bid

Everton may make a move for Jesse Lingard before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday night, according to the Daily Star.

The British newspaper claimed via their website on Saturday evening [28/08/21] that Everton are “considering making an offer in the next 48 hours”.

As per the Daily Star’s report, the 28-year-old is likely to drop down the Manchester United pecking order with Cristiano Ronaldo set to re-join the club, and that could push the Red Devils to sell him before Tuesday.

Versatile

This time last year, Everton fans may have rolled their eyes at such a link.

But, after a sensational five-month loan spell at West Ham that saw Lingard net nine goals in 16 games and fire the Hammers to the Europa League, the 29-cap England international is hot property.

He looked a sure-fire bet to return to the London Stadium after making a big impression in east London, but a move has failed to materialise thus far.

West Ham are still interested in a late move for Lingard, as per the Daily Star’s report, but Everton could now make an attempt to nip ahead of them in the race for the Warrington-born ace hailed as “amazing” by Rio Ferdinand. [Five]

He would be a valuable addition to Rafa Benitez’s side as a player who can play anywhere across the attacking midfield and forward positions, much like Demarai Gray.

However, it has to be thought that Lingard may prefer a return to West Ham if he does indeed depart Manchester United, after finding success there earlier this year.

However, he wouldn’t have to uproot from his Manchester home if he made the move to Everton, and that could be a factor that benefits the Blues.

In other Everton news, Blues bid for this international attacker is in danger of a late collapse after major complications in talks.
