Everton ready to offer Salomon Rondon two-year deal to sign

Everton are ready to offer a two-year deal to ex-Premier League striker Salomon Rondon to bring him to Goodison Park, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper reports that the Blues are “working on a deal” to sign the 31-year-old Venezuela international, who worked with Rafa Benitez while on loan at Newcastle from West Brom in 2018/19.

It is understood that Benitez wants Rondon to offer experienced back-up for Dominic Calvert-Lewin but a deal for the South American striker is “complicated by a financial issue” with his former club Dalian Professional.

However, the Echo reports that there’s hope a deal can be completed in time for the 11pm deadline on Tuesday.

There’s hope

Rondon would be another signing that most Evertonians won’t be on board with.

Benitez’s appointment wasn’t met with a lot of approval while the additions of Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray were also seen as quite underwhelming.

However, Benitez has so far impressed in charge of the Blues while Gray is looking like one of the signings of the summer considering the pittance paid for him from Bayer Leverkusen.

With Rondon, he’s not going to be a regular starter.

But he’s strong, powerful, is good with the ball at his feet and can bring fellow attackers into play.

Unfortunately, Rondon isn’t a proven goalscorer in the Premier League.

During his time at West Brom and Newcastle, he netted just 35 times in 140 Premier League appearances.

But, as mentioned, he’ll be a back-up for Calvert-Lewin and offer us some good strength in depth.

DCL won’t be firing on all cylinders all season so having Rondon as an option could be good.
