Everton see potential move for Nathan Patterson fall through after self-isolation orders

Everton are no longer able to sign Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson ahead of Tuesday’s summer transfer deadline, according to Daily Record.

The 19-year-old Scotland international has been told by the Scottish government to self-isolate retrospectively after he was identified as a close contact from the Bears trip to face Ross County earlier this month.

As a result, Patterson will have to stay at home until Wednesday, ruling out any chances whatsoever he has of completing a move to join the Toffees.

Blow

Everton want a new right-back this summer with Jonjoe Kenny not in the plans of manager Rafa Benitez from the look of things.

The Goodison Park outfit already tabled two bids for the Rangers full-back, and while they could have been tempted to go in with an improved offer ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, that cannot happen as the player will be unavailable for a medical all through Tuesday.

Seamus Coleman remains the first-choice in the position on Merseyside, and it appears the 32-year-old could end up being unchallenged till at least January.

Everton are likely to look at other players, though, but there is very little time left in the transfer window, and Patterson having to isolate has thrown the spanner in their works.

Should Benitez’s side fail in their bid to sign a right-back this summer, they could return for the signature of the Rangers academy graduate in January or next summer.

The Toffees boss clearly loves what he has seen in the teenage sensation, and the Spaniard will most likely continue monitoring his development going forward.
