Southampton not in the race to sign Daniel Jebbison amid reported Everton bid

Sky Sports are reporting that Southampton are not in the race to sign Daniel Jebbison, who Everton have reportedly tabled a bid for.

Speaking on the ‘Good Morning Transfers’ show [09:30, 30/08/21], presenter Tom White delivered an update on the Sheffield United striker.

“They [Southampton] are looking to bring one more player in on loan,” he said.

“But we are being told that they are not trying to sign Daniel Jebbison from Sheffield United, but some Premier League clubs are trying to [sign him] as well.”

Online news outlet TEAMtalk reported last week that the Blades had rejected a £5million offer from Everton, while The Star said the Blues were confident of signing the 18-year-old striker.

More firepower required

Everton have already signed wingers Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray while there is heavy speculation that a move for Porto attacker Luis Diaz could be edged over the line before the transfer deadline on Tuesday.

However, the aforementioned trio are not central strikers or natural goalscorers.

On the other hand, Canada-born Jebbison, who made his England Under-18s debut last year, is a more natural centre-forward and has brief experience of the Premier League after making four top-tier appearances last season.

One of those included a 1-0 win at Goodison Park in May where he scored the only goal of the game.

Whether he can be relied upon to act as Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s main understudy remains to be seen, however, given the lack of senior games under his belt.

But with Richarlison also capable of operating centrally and Salomon Rondon heavily linked to the Blues, Jebbison may well be brought into the Under-23 side with a view to easing him into the first team.

In other Everton news, Blues bid for this international attacker is in danger of a late collapse amfter major complications in talks.
