Everton could revisit Luis Diaz deal in future after deadline day blow

Everton look unlikely to sign Porto attacker Luis Diaz on deadline day but they could make a move for him at a later date, according to Ryan Taylor.

The Express Sport journalist, writing via his personal Twitter profile, suggests the Blues’ bid for the Colombia international has hit the skids.

“Luis Diaz negotiations stalled,” he wrote. “Could be revisited in the future.”

2022?

It looks like Everton fans will have to wait until at least next year to see Diaz dazzle at Goodison Park.

While it is sure to be a blow for Blues supporters that he cannot be brought in for the first half fo the campaign, Taylor’s claim leaves it open for the club to make a renewed bid in January or at the end of the season.

However, the 24-year-old’s stock is high after a stellar season with Porto that was followed by a four-goal Copa America tournament with Colombia.

If he continues in the same vein he’s surely likely to attract further attention from top clubs in Europe.

It was a good chance for the Blues to nip in relatively early and bring him to Goodison Park, but it appears that opportunity is quickly fading away with just a few hours left until the end of deadline day.

There had been widespread reports that James Rodriguez would be involved in a deal to take Diaz from Porto, but complications have ensued and the deal looks dead in the water for now.
