Kevin Campbell reacts as Everton confirm Salomon Rondon deal

Kevin Campbell has reacted as Everton announced the deadline-busting signing of Salomon Rondon last night.

Rafa Benitez managed to seal a deal for the South American, and reunite with him for the third time during his career.

Campbell believes that it is perfect for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who could be dropped to the bench more times now this season.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I like Rondon.

“I think he could be an important signing, there will be times where he and Calvert-Lewin can play together, he’ll take that physical burden.

“Rondon is big, strong and can get hold of the ball and then the next one is coming in for Calvert-Lewin to attack.

“There will be times where Calvert-Lewin will start on the bench and Rondon will start – he’s an astute signing.”

Big claim.

Calvert-Lewin and Rondon are very similar in the sense that they are both big, powerful handfuls in the final third.

The Toffees haven’t had an ideal replacement for the England international when needed, and he could have helped at the start of this season.

The striker has been struggling with injuries and will miss this international break because of that.

Should Rondon have arrived earlier, he could have started against Brighton, but thankfully it didn’t matter in the end.

This is a smart addition, and Benitez will no doubt get the best out of him.
