Everton manager Rafael Benitez wanted Rondon all summer
Everton were interested in signing Salomon Rondon all summer before they finally secured his signature on deadline day, according to The Athletic.
They claim that Rafael Benitez initially identified the former Newcastle United striker as a target very early in the window because he wanted experienced backup for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
However, the club initially struggled to arrange a deal for the 31-year-old, and there were fears that the deal would prove too complicated to complete.

Benitez gets his man.
However, it became clear as the transfer window approached its conclusion that the Spaniard and the Venezuelan could be reunited, and the Toffees made their move.
When the pair were together at Newcastle, Rondon was fantastic and scored 11 league goals and provided seven assists in a team where he was the focal point.
Of course, the Toffees have Calvert-Lewin ahead of him, but Rondon now gives Benitez a strong option off the bench, a potential partner for the England international or a rotational option.

Rondon also has plenty of experience and knows the Spaniard well.
So, it seems like the perfect deal for the Toffees, Benitez, and Rondon.
We can’t wait to see what he can do with the Toffees, and if he plays like he did while he was on Tyneside, then Everton have secured themselves a serious bargain.
In other Everton news, one Toffees player looks unlikely to leave the club before January.
