Mason Holgate nearly left Everton for a move to Newcastle United
Mason Holgate was offered a move out of Everton to Newcastle United, but they refused to pay the loan fee, according to the Telegraph.
They claim that the 24-year-old could have left Goodison and moved to St James’ Park, but the Toon wouldn’t match Everton’s demands to take Holgate on loan.
This could have been a good move for the former Barnsley defender who has appeared for 180 minutes in the league so far, but Newcastle weren’t having any of it.

Holgate misses out?
A move to Tyneside could have meant that the centre-back got some regular game time, and if he had done well, perhaps the Toffees could have made a profit on him.
However, he will instead have to stay and compete with Yerry Mina, Michael Keane, and Ben Godfrey for game time in Benitez’s back four.
The Spaniard has played Holgate in two of the three opening league games, but with Godfrey set to return, you would think he could find himself on the bench.

Therefore, Holgate is going to have to impress in training and whenever he is given any game time.
