Benitez wasn’t fully convinced by Denzel Dumfries amid Everton links
Everton did not sign Denzel Dumfries in the summer transfer window as Rafa Benitez wasn’t fully convinced by the Dutch right-back, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Dumfries, 25, swapped PSV for Inter Milan last month but was strongly linked with a move to Goodison Park to solve the Blues’ right-back conundrum.
The Liverpool Echo reported in August that Dumfries was a player who director of football Marcel Brands wanted at Goodison.

However, in the newspaper’s latest update, Benitez blocked a move for the Netherlands international as he was strapped for cash and wasn’t 100 per cent sure about him.
Too costly?
Everton’s transfer business was largely hamstrung by the financial situation of the club in the summer.
After years of over-spending on duds, Farhad Moshiri finally paid for his mistakes when the Blues were restricted to signing free agents in the summer, as well as Demarai Gray, who cost less than £2million.

While it so far looks as though that business was good, it remains to be seen how the squad will fare over the course of the season.
There’s always the risk of injuries and suspensions causing chaos while you can also thrown in the chance of a COVID outbreak into the mix.
Everton’s options are light but Benitez is a good manager who is more than capable of working with what he’s got.
We didn’t have the summer transfer window we expected but maybe it was good to rein it in for one year and let the squad settle a bit.
It’s just a shame that some of the fringe players and outcasts like Fabian Delph and James Rodriguez weren’t shifted out.
