Darren Bent hails Everton ‘revelation’ Demarai Gray

Darren Bent has showered Everton summer signing Demarai Gray in praise after his stunning start to life on Merseyside.

Gray, 25, joined Everton from German outfit Bayer Leverkusen in the recent transfer window for £1.7milllion.

He proved to be the only player the Blues spent money on with goalkeepers Andy Lonergan and Asmir Begovic joining attackers Andros Townsend and Salomon Rondon as signings without a transfer fee.

Speaking on talkSPORT [03/09/21], ex-England striker Bent, who also regularly works for Sky Sports, hailed Gray and delivered his verdict on the business done by the Blues this summer.

“I like what they’ve done,” Bent said.

“I know they’ve only spent £1.7million in the transfer market but Demarai Gray looks like a revelation. The pace, he looks like he’s playing with real confidence.”

Is it enough?

Gray and Townsend, particularly the former, have started the season in spectacular fashion to help guide Rafa Benitez to an unbeaten four-game start.

While Gray has earned a Premier League Player of the Month nomination after two goals in three games, Townsend struck a League Cup winner against Huddersfield Town to send Everton into the next round.

Begovic made his debut in that 2-1 success over the Championship side while Lonergan and Rondon are yet to make their Blues bow.

There’s an air of excitement in the air under Benitez now, though concerns have started to creep out among supporters after the failure to bring more players in.

Late moves to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles [Arsenal] and Luis Diaz [Porto] failed and thus Benitez may rue the club’s inability to bring in a new right-back and attacker.
