Cenk Tosun to resume ball work at Everton in next few weeks

Cenk Tosun has started running and will begin working with the ball at Everton in the next few weeks, according to his agent Erkut Sogut.

Turkish news outlet Fanatik has published quotes from Sogut on their website after an interview with the agent of the 30-year-old Turkish international.

“I hope Cenk Tosun will return to the field even stronger as soon as possible,” Sogut said.

“For this, he continues to work day and night with his private teacher. He has started running and will start training with the ball at his club Everton in a few weeks.

“He is also very happy to be joining his friends at Everton again. He has one more year contract and will do his best on the field. The success of Everton is very important for Cenk.

“He is counting down the days to fight with his friends on the field in order to return to the national team as soon as possible and participate in the World Cup in Qatar. Participating in the World Cup in Qatar is very important for both Turkey and Cenk.”

Everton

Frozen out?

All has gone quiet on Tosun at Goodison Park in recent months.

A quick search of his name on the club’s official website brings up a ‘paper talk’ feature on July 9 as his last mention on the site, while the last official statement was on April 12 to confirm that he was set to undergo knee surgery following an injury suffered on loan at Besiktas last season.

He’s not listed on the injury list either, despite clearly being unable to play in any fixtures during September.

Perhaps that’s an indication of how he is viewed now at Everton, despite arriving at Everton for £27million [Sky Sports] in 2018.

The “expensive” [Marcel Brands, Liverpool Echo] Tosun has just one year left on his contract, and with Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon signing on deadline day, there looks to be no room for him at the club.

Moise Kean’s departure to Juventus may have given him a chance of breaking into the squad, but Rondon’s arrival means there will have to be a glut of injuries for Tosun to get onto the field for Rafa Benitez this season.
