Jack Cunningham Everton Fan Mailbag: Will James be given a chance to shine?
Every week we’ll be asking Everton fans on our Twitter account for questions that will be answered by Goodison News correspondent Jack Cunningham. You can join in by following the Goodison News Twitter account and watching out for weekly mailbag posts.
James Rodriguez is still an Everton player after every transfer window in Europe slammed shut.
It had looked for all the world that the Colombian would depart Goodison Park this summer after being informed by Rafael Benitez that he wouldn’t be part of the Spaniard’s plans [Liverpool Echo].
However, no club were keen to take on the 30-year-old’s huge wages, and he will remain on Merseyside until at least January.

We asked for your burning questions about the Blues this week for Goodison News correspondent Jack Cunningham to answer, and one Toffees fan stated a case for James.

Peter makes a very good point, and now that the Colombian is staying, it would make sense for the Toffees to play him.
Last season in 23 league games, the 30-year-old scored six goals and provided five assists, which was a decent return, although he somewhat faded away after an electric start.
However, there is no question that Rodriguez is talented, but does he have the right attitude to succeed at Goodison?
Last month, the Colombian admitted on his Twitch channel that he had no idea who the Toffees were playing at the weekend [16/08/2021].
There were also claims that he was desperate to leave, so that would suggest that he isn’t that committed to the cause [The Athletic].
Then you have the attacking midfielder’s relationship with Benitez, which can be described as rocky at best [Daily Mirror].
However, there could be hope for Rodriguez as Benitez extended an olive branch to him in his Burnley press conference and claimed that if he shows the right attitude, then the Spaniard will use him [Liverpool Echo].
Therefore, the ball is firmly in Rodriguez’s court, and we hope that he takes this opportunity presented to him, but it remains to be seen exactly what he decides to do.
